“Silifke” is a beautiful place with the sorrounded mountains called “Toros”. “Silifke” is the region of culture, history,sunlight,sea and mountains. The local Turkish people are called “Teke Türkmenleri”. Other name of the local people is “Yörük”. “Yörük”s immigrate inside a specific area with respect to different condition. They give birth every time to local cultural richness.

The most variable cultural source lives in this region. Oldest Turkish communites try to demonstrate their life with dances and songs. The philosophy of Shamanism has joined to local tradition and has been living with the effect of folk dance.

Dances are divided into five main categories. By the effect of “Teke”; Kaşıklı oyunlar (dances that is performed with wooden spoon), “Mengiler”, “Zeybekler”, “Semahlar” ve “Seyirlik” are the categories. “Türkü” (local songs) always accompany to the “Kaşıklı oyunlar” and “Zeybekler”. These dances demonstrate love,friendship, sadness, daily lifes, nature and richness.

Dances are performed bey the rhythm of 2/4, 4/4, 9/8. As instruments “klernet,”kaval”,violin,”kemane”,”bağlama”, “cura”, drum are used.

“Göynek-Zubun-İçlik”, “Tuman”, “Şalvar-Dizlik”, “Üç etek”, woollen belt,”Sıkma-sıkman-koçik”, “Fistan- Boylama”, “Peştamal”, “Kaytan”, woollen socks, “Çarık-Çapula”, “Çit-Leçek”.
